A trio of sailors contested the race today, in light airs but big swell, following a morning of high winds and surfing on the beach!
OOD Jon Spencer ran the race from the new sailing club committee boat* setting a course to make the most of the Westerly force 2; Start to point, followed by a broad Reach to Outer and a run to Bodelieas, back through middle and a beat back up to Point. 2 laps were completed by all boats.
Before the race started – the new club mascot (who needs naming!) put in an appearance by the committee boat, probably hoping a Mackerel, a Sandwich, or a small child would be thrown for a late afternoon snack.
A good start from all racers hitting the line on time and at pace – a small miracle considering James Greenhalgh capsized in front of the committee boat right on the 1 minute hooter!
James got a quick lead and rounded the Point marker first – a lead he maintained through the rest of the race.
Rob Keen and Bob Harris contested the rest of the race in a close fought battle for 2nd and 3rd, with Rob stretching away on the final lap.
Well done to all racers, and thanks to OOD Jon Spencer (and for the baby-sitting duty too!) and Rescue Officer Tony Haines.
