Tough conditions again today. In a familiar pattern, the strong winds from the morning dropped slightly, while the sea state remained lumpy with some decent sized swell.

A straightforward  3 lap circuit of the bay was set for a North Westerly Force 3-4: Start – Point – Outer -Bodelias – Start.

On the water, Jon and Simon in the Hobie 16 blasted up to the first mark neck and neck with Hamish and Lisa in the Laser 2000 . Hamish and Lisa were able to sail a tighter course to the mark, while the Hobie required a couple of tacks to make progress upwind.

The Hobie soon pushed ahead on a broad reach to Outer, while Hamish and Lisa made good progress with the Spinnaker out.

Behind the two leaders, John and Holly enjoyed a battle from mark to mark with Paul Harris in the Laser.

Nick and Rachel coped admirably with the big sea in the RS Quba, especially having fun surfing the waves from Outer to Bodelias.

Lap 2 saw some minor drama as Hamish and Lisa were forced to abandon with a broken spinnaker rope. Some scandalous accusations were directed at the previous owners of the boat, but no root-cause has been confirmed yet!

Once back on dry land and the scores on the doors were added up, Holly (helm) and John (crew) were declared winners.

Well done to all – conditions looked very tough from the beach, and it took some great character to get out on the water and race.

Thanks to Gwillam for stepping in as OOD.
